WHAT:  Unplanned ePass Authentication Disruption Resolved

WHEN:  04/28/19  Duration:  5:00pm - 6:50pm

Current Status:  Resolved

Description:  Around 5:00pm on Sunday, April 28, the certificate for the ePass login server had expired, causing browsers like Chrome to report, "Your connection is not private:
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from allotropa.plu.edu (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards)." I&TS staff began work to restore the certificate as soon as the issue was reported, and a new certificate was installed by 6:50pm, resolving the issue. This disruption affected only those users who attempted to login during this interval.

Service(s) Impacted:  ePass login services impacting Sakai, Banner, Gmail, Google Apps, Campus Calendar, Web Help Desk, Campus Network, etc.

Root Cause / Continuous Improvement:  Expired certificate.
