Description: Our primary Internet Service Provider has notified I&TS that they will be performing some network re-configuration between 6pm and midnight on Wednesday.  This work will require brief disruptions of service for all customers, including a 10 minute interruption (approx.) in service.

Our Internet connection redundancy should prevent any significant disruption in service.  However, any disconnection of this type as the possibility of causing some loss in service to & from campus.

Despite efforts over the weekend to resolve the slow response issue the problem has persisted.  We continue to work with Ellucian to find a solution as quickly as possible.

Original Post:
On Tuesday, November 29th, I&TS began receiving notification of slow response times within Internet Native Banner (INB).  Specifically, the issue arises when users enter an ID number in the keyblock of most screens - currently it's taking up to 20 seconds for that action to resolve.  It was believed the issue was resolved at 11:30 am today, December 1st.  However, at 1:30 we began receiving word that the problem has reappeared.  Please see workaround option below.

We are actively working on a permanent solution and appreciate your patience.  This post will be updated as soon as we have more information.

Workarounds: Rather than typing an ID or name at the keyblock of a form/screen, use the list function (F9) and perform your search.  This method consistently produces quick results.

*Update*
A service disruption for outgoing email is currently estimated to have occurred between 1:00am and 8:50am on Thursday, September 15 affecting various PLU systems such as Sakai, the PLU HelpDesk, scanners, and other systems but not including PLU Gmail and other Google services. While the outgoing email service has been restored as of 8:50 am, the Sakai Support Team has observed that some email sent from Sakai between 1am and 8:50am may not have actually been sent. Therefore, Sakai users might need to resend messages sent during that period.  It is unclear if any other systems experienced any lost messages, but message delivery delays during that time period were a common occurence. We apologize for the inconvenience.

There appears to be problem with outgoing mail being sent from various systems.  Scanners, Sakai, and the PLU HelpDesk are among those that have been identified so far.

Workarounds: Our firewalls should be able to re-route traffic to our backup connection, but some intermittent disruption could still occur at the beginning and end of the downtime.

WHAT: PLU's Single-sign-on system will be upgraded

Description: Throughout the day on Monday, the I&TS Systems team will be converting various systems to an upgraded single-sign-on (SSO) platform.  No significant outages are anticipated during this rolling upgrade process.  However, a brief disruption (1-2 minutes) to just the login service for each application may be experienced as each migration is completed.  Once logged into any given application, no interruption should be expected and only one application will be migrated at a time.  You may notice a need to re-login when transitioning between services during this period, due to the simultaneous operation of both the current and new SSO platforms.

Current Status: Resolved via workaround

Description:
*** Update #3 - 9:10pm***  All servers and services should be restored to full access through the SSO system.  A workaround has been implemented to resolve the outstanding issue with the authentication system.  No additional work on this is planned through the weekend.  The I&TS System team will monitor services the rest of the weekend and will convene a review and assessment effort on Monday morning to determine next-steps to remove the workaround and ensure continued service.

*** Update #2 - 5:30pm***  All servers have received preliminary assessment and file system issues have been resolved wherever identified.  Unfortunately, the Single-Sign-On system that provides access to many of our services (e.g. Sakai, Google Apps, Banner SSB, etc.) is failing to operate properly.  The I&TS Systems team is continuing to actively troubleshoot this issue including restoring system copies from the nightly backups and using every other available tool to restore service as soon as possible.

***Update #1 - 1:20pm*** Storage system access is restored.  Assessment of affected servers is underway to determine if restarts will be necessary to restore services.

***Original Post***  It appears a support technician from one of our equipment vendors made a mistake in working on system configuration troubleshooting.  A configuration change made caused many of our servers to lose access to their storage, thereby disrupting operations.  Emergency work is underway to reestablish connections and return all services to full operation.

On Saturday, July 23rd Information & Technology Services will be performing maintenance on core network and server equipment.  During this time there will be a series of intermittent outages affecting most of the services we offer, including Sakai, Banner, PLU web (www.plu.edu), Library, single-sign-on authentication services (for Google Apps, Salesforce, etc.), and many others.

The work will begin as early as 7:00AM on Saturday morning with the primary disruption occurring earlier in this maintenance period.  Most services will be restored by 2:00pm and all work is anticipated to be completed by 7:00PM on Saturday evening.

*Complete* Planned Internet Service Disruption - July 8th - Lasting approximately 30 Minutes between 1-5am

WHAT: Primary ISP for PLU will be performing maintenance on our connection.

WHEN: 7/8/16 Duration: Approximately 30 minutes between 1:00AM-5:00AM

WHERE: PLU Campus

Current Status: Closed

Description: The primary ISP for the PLU campus has notified us that their circuit provider will be performing "service-impacting maintenance" early the morning of July 8th.  The downtime is expect to be 30 minutes and will occur between 1:00AM and 5:00AM that morning.

Service(s) Impacted: Campus Network

Workarounds: Our firewalls may be able to re-route traffic to our backup connection, but some intermittent disruption would still occur at the beginning and end of the downtime.

Description: When you look up a library catalog item, it shows the message "We were unable to get availability information for this item. Please check at the circulation desk for assistance."

Workarounds: Looking up items in the classic catalog will show correct availability.

Root Cause / Continuous Improvement: Migration to new firewall caused WorldCat to be unable to talk to our library server. This has been fixed.

*Updated* Brief Internet Outage Overnight - 4/29/2016 beginning at 12:45am

WHAT: Primary ISP connection dropped

WHEN: 04/29/2016  Duration: 12:44:51 AM to 1:35:09 AM

WHERE: PLU Main Campus

Current Status: Resolved

Description: *Update*  We received followup information from our ISP that their carrier performed "scheduled" maintenance during a maintenance window that they did not notify our ISP about.  The full disruption ended up lasting from approximately 12:45am until 1:35am.  All services appear to be fully restored and no continued issues are anticipated.

*Original Post* For a couple of minutes our primary Internet connection dropped along with more than a dozen other customers.  Our primary ISP noted the issue and is investigating the cause with their carrier.  No additional outage is expected, though this outage was unplanned and given the unknown cause no certainty can be applied to the possibility of a recurrence at this time.

WHEN: 4/14/2016 Duration: Estimated outage duration is two hours, however the entire Midnight-6am maintenance window is being reserved.

Description: 
*Update #3 - 7:50am*  I&TS has reconfigured our Internet service routing to use a backup service.  While service has generally been restored using this connection, it does not have sufficient capacity to handle our full internet load during peak traffic periods so some ongoing issues with performance and/or connectivity are anticipated.  We continue to await any updates from out primary ISP regarding restoration of service.

*Update #2 -7:15am*  According to our ISP, the work they were doing overnight began around 1:30am and did not go well.  They are continuing to try to resolve the issue, but can provide no ETA for full service restoration.  I&TS will attempt to reconfigure our Internet service routing to use a backup service, but this approach has had varying levels of success in the past.

*Update #1 - 7:00am* I&TS is investigating to determine why our Internet service continues to be offline. Technicians are en route to campus.

*Original Post* Our primary Internet Service Provider notified us today of planned preventative circuit maintenance work that will be taking place early Wednesday morning.  This work is anticipated to cause service disruptions for approximately two hours sometime between Midnight and 6am.

Workarounds: We are investigating whether we can utilize our 2nd ISP connection to provide an alternate service path.  However, please plan to complete any work that may require Internet access from campus, or access to campus services (e.g. Sakai, Banner, etc.) before the work begins.
