12/15/2021 - 8:30AM: Amazon Web Services (and Duo) have reported that the connectivity issue has been resolved and access to their services are now functioning normally.

*** UPDATE *** Fri., Nov. 12, 10:45am - I&TS staff implemented a fix at approximately 9:50am that seems to have resolved the disruption occurring with the Request Course form and other similar services on chili.plu.edu. Prior to this at least one reported problem with logging in to Sakai was also resolved with the aforementioned fix. I&TS staff will continue to monitor this issue. **8:15am 10/19/2021 Update** Unplanned Campus Telephone Service Disruption beginning Monday, October 18th - 10:00am

WHAT: Unplanned Campus Telephone Service Disruption

Current Status: Resolved

Description: 
**8:15am 10/19 Update**
Telephone service to campus appears to be restored and functioning properly, but we have not received official word from our provider.  Our secondary ISP connection has yet to be tested, but will likely be brought back online tonight in order to minimize further disruption.  The repair team continues to work on the remainder of the damaged cable with at least two-thirds of the cable remaining to repair.  During the repair process it is possible, though unlikely, for additional issues to be identified.  Also, the temporary cable is apparently in an active construction zone, so until a permanent repair is completed we anticipate some continued risk of further disruption.

**7:30am 10/19 Update**
The telecommunications carrier has had a team of (4) fiber splicers working on splicing the fiber for a temporary replacement cable since approximately 1:00am this morning.  Unfortunately, even after 6 hours of splicing there is still no official ETR for this issue.  I&TS continues to actively monitor the progress and will provide updates as more information is available.

**11:30pm Update**
Our telecommunications carrier provider is still actively working to dig and gain access to the damaged cable and hopes to fully assess the damage soon.  The fiber in the damaged location is a high count fiber cable which means if the repair requires replacement of a section of the cable, they will have to splice both ends of the new cable.  This is likely to be a time consuming process.  Based on this updated information there is no ETR currently available.

**9:30pm Update**
Updated information from our telecommunications providers indicates the outage is due to fiber damaged by construction work in the Tacoma area.  Current Estimated Time to Repair (ETR) is approximately midnight, but this is not a firm time commitment as additional issues may be identified during the course of replacing the damaged fiber.

**Original Post**
Around 10:00am this morning one of our primary telecommunications providers began experiencing some type of service failure which is affecting services to the PLU campus.  Telephone service in/out of campus is offline due to this outage.  Also, at this time, our Internet connection is being handled by a single ISP as our secondary service is offline.

Description: One of PLU's Internet Service Providers will be performing maintenance on some of their equipment that supports one of our internet connections.  This work is scheduled between 1:00AM-4:00AM on Wednesday, July 14th.

PLU has multiple ISP connections and has designed our connectivity to utilize all links whenever possible.  During this maintenance, our Internet service will be switched to our secondary ISP for all traffic. However, during the transition periods users may experience disruption to their connections.

*UPDATE* Network Maintenance and Service Disruption

WHAT: Extended service disruption impacting access to some remaining campus resources due to complications during planned maintenance.

UPDATE: As of the morning of Monday June 7th, most remaining services have been restored. There are a few remaining services that have not been brought back up and I&TS staff will continue to work to bring these services back online when possible. *11:59pm, June 6 Update*

I&TS staff wrapped up for the tonight after completing restoration of critical services (Banner, Sakai, file servers, etc.). While the majority of services should be fully functional, there are a few systems that require additional attention on Monday to restore 100% functionality. *7:00pm, June 6 Update*

The I&TS staff continues to work on restoring critical services that were unexpectedly disrupted during yesterday's planned maintenance. The team will continue to work throughout the evening to restore as many critical services as possible before Monday morning. Primary focus will be on restoring Sakai and Banner prior to the beginning of the work day.


*10:00pm Update*

We have encountered a critical error with our update process that is forcing us to shutdown a number additional services in order to complete the process and associated repairs. Every effort to restore services as soon as possible is being made.

*2:30pm Update*

Some of the update processes are taking notably longer than expected. At this time we expect Banner and Sakai will still go offline about 3:00pm, but they will be returned to service sometime after 6:00pm. If there are any other significant changes to the plan we will post updates here.

On Saturday, June 5th, Information and Technology Services will be performing planned maintenance on several pieces of core networking equipment on campus.  In order to perform this work, servers for both Banner and Sakai will need to be shut down, making Banner and Sakai unavailable between 3:00pm and 6:00pm on June 5th.  In addition, access to Netstor and Banserve3 file servers will be down for the day and VPN connected users and on-campus devices may lose access to some PLU resources intermittently while maintenance is being performed.  Status updates will be posted as work is completed to provide additional information when available.

*** UPDATE *** Friday, Apr. 9, 10:41am - I&TS staff have resolved the root issue causing delays for clients using Firefox and while connected through PLU's VPN (e.g., through FortiClient). Firefox users who still experience inordinate delays when connecting to chili.plu.edu may need to exit Firefox and restart it for faster responses. Other problems connecting to chili.plu.edu may require clearing your browser's cache. I&TS staff will continue to monitor these issues.

*** UPDATE *** Friday, Apr. 9, 9:06am - I&TS staff are also observing slow connection times to chili.plu.edu when using Firefox and while connected through PLU's VPN (e.g., through FortiClient). Information & Technology Services will be working with our telephone system (PBX) support vendor to complete an upgrade process on the campus telephone system.  This work will require a series of disruptions impacting the ability for calls to and from campus landline telephones.  The entire work period could last several hours, but the work will affect different campus telephone lines for varying lengths from just a few minutes to as long as the entire work period.
