PLU Zoom Enterprise Licensing

In July of 2025, PLU will be discontinuing its Zoom enterprise licensing and will be transitioning to Google Meet as our primary videoconferencing solution. While significant price increases were a major factor in this decision, it also was an opportunity to reevaluate Meet as an alternative solution, which was already included in our existing Google Workspace for Education agreement. Our department has reviewed Google Meet and we are confident that Google’s improvements in this product over the last several years have made Google Meet into a videoconferencing platform that will address the needs of the university. We understand that moving away from Zoom will take some adjustment for everyone and the PLU User Services staff will do our best to provide guidance and assist where needed to make this transition as smooth as possible. Handouts and documents to assist with learning the features of Google Meet are available in the PLU KnowledgeBase and additional questions related to the transition can be sent to helpdesk@plu.edu.

Zoom licensing will officially expire for PLU on July 11th and all accounts will revert back to basic, unlicensed accounts, with significant time and feature restrictions. Zoom integration with Sakai will be removed prior to the start of summer classes to avoid any disruptions partway through an active course. If you would like to use Google Meet within your Sakai course, guidance is provided in the PLU KnowledgeBase.

***POSTPONED*** Internet Service Provider Planned Outage - Thursday, May 8th 10:00PM to Friday, May 9th 04:00AM

WHAT: PLU Internet Service Provider Maintenance

WHEN: May 8-9, 2025 Duration: Up to 3 hours between 10:00PM and 04:00AM

WHERE: Internet service in and out of campus

Current Status: Postponed

Description: One of PLU's Internet Service Providers will be performing maintenance on some of their equipment that supports one of our internet connections.  This work is scheduled between 10:00PM and 04:00AM on Thursday night into Friday morning and is expected to last up to 3 hours.

PLU has multiple ISP connections and has designed our connectivity to utilize all links whenever possible.  During this maintenance, our Internet service will automatically be switched to our secondary ISP for all traffic. However, during the transition periods users may experience disruption to their connections.

Workarounds: Secondary ISP should handle our Internet service needs.
