Current Status: Resolved

Description: We have seen a small number of wireless network disruptions due to some sort of instability in the controller system used to manage the over 800 Wireless Access Points on campus.  Most of those disruptions have been short lived or self-correcting, but this morning (Thursday, September 19th) we experienced a more substantial disruption lasting roughly an hour followed by a smaller disruption this evening.  We have been working with our network vendor to identify the root cause or a plan to otherwise mitigate the effect.  At this point we don't have clear guidance from our vendor and continue to monitor closely for issues and act quickly to resolve any problems that to not self-resolve.

The part finally arrived and was installed mid-afternoon on Wednesday, September 18th.  The connection has remained stable for 24 hours, so this issue appears to be resolved.

*Update #1*
Our ISP identified a failed component during onsite troubleshooting around 3am Saturday morning.  Unfortunately, replacement parts are not available nearby and will need to be flown in from the east coast.  Current ETA is arrival no earlier that sometime Monday, September 16th with scheduling of installation to follow after confirmation of receipt.  At this time our other ISP continues to provide all of our Internet service to campus.

*Original Post*
At approximately 9:10pm our primary Internet Service Provider (ISP) began experiencing a service outage that affected the campus network access to the Internet and access from off-campus to on-campus resources.  We have failed our ISP service over to entirely rely on our secondary ISP which should sustain service to campus until the faulty ISP restores their service.  At this time we do not have information from our ISP as to the cause of the issue or the time to repair, but they are aware of the issue and have dispatched technicians to investigate and resolve the cause.

Description: One of PLU's Internet Service Providers will be performing maintenance on some of their equipment that supports one of our internet connections.  This work is scheduled between 10:00PM  on Monday night and 5:00AM on the morning of Monday, September 9th and is expected to last approximately 1 hour.

PLU has multiple ISP connections and has designed our connectivity to utilize all links whenever possible.  During this maintenance, our Internet service will be switched to our secondary ISP for all traffic. However, during the transition periods users may experience disruption to their connections.

Campus Network and Services Scheduled Maintenance Disruption - Weekend of August 3-4, 2024

Current Status: Planned

Description: 
During the weekend of August 3-4, 2024 Information & Technology Services will be continuing a core network upgrade which began the weekend of May 24-25, 2024.  This work will cause a series of disruptions to campus network access as well as require taking some services offline during portions of the work.

The primary service impact will be mid-morning to early afternoon on Saturday, August 3rd.  During that time we will be reconfiguring our network routing to operate on new equipment installed in May and decommissioning older equipment.

Continued work later Saturday and through the remainder of the weekend may be necessary and will typically involve more brief and localized disruptions to different physical and logical segments of the network.  Generally these later disruptions should be brief for any affected areas and will be determined based on testing of the network following the earlier work on Saturday.

Significant progress has been made on the upgrades, with today's work wrapping up now.  Additional work will continue Sunday beginning mid-morning and continuing throughout the day as described in the original post.

**Original Post**
